Yo quiero Carlos Alazraqui
Carlos Alazraqui may be easily recognizable as the racist Mexican Deputy James Garcia on Comedy Central’s Reno 911!, but he contributed his voice-acting expertise to another famous Mexican: the Taco Bell Chihuahua.
No kidding. The commercials that spawned many late-night declarations of “Yo quiero Taco Bell” gained popularity in part because of Alazraqui’s unforgettable Mexican accent. Well, paired with that adorable Chihuahua, how could you say no to a Mexican pizza?
Alazraqui and Jill-Michele Meleán of MadTV will appear at Sac State for a free comedy show Wednesday, September 10, at 7:30 p.m.
Alazraqui, a Sac State alumni, has given speech to a slew of characters, including Monroe in The Life & Times of Juniper Lee, Rocko of Nickelodeon’s Rocko’s Modern Life, Lazlo on Camp Lazlo, Mr. Crocker on Nickelodeon’s Fairly OddParents and a penguin in the animated film Happy Feet. He also starred in his own half-hour comedy special on Comedy Central, is in development on several of his own series and performs stand-up on a regular basis.
Meleán will open the show. She is the first Latina cast member for Fox’s MadTV and is most known for her dead-on impressions of Drew Barrymore and Britney Spears. Meleán also played “Margaret the bus driver” on several episodes of Reno 911! alongside Alazraqui.
