The drama set on the ill-fated Titanic focuses on the ship’s builder, J. Bruce Ismay. Amidst the catastrophe, he takes an empty seat on a lifeboat (1,500 others perished)—and then is vilified as a coward, because he didn’t “go down with the ship.” The play poses the intriguing moral question: What would you do in the same situation?
