Shh, don’t tell them

Magpie Caterers Market and Cafe has been offering a not-too-sweet yet appealing peanut butter cookie for several months now. It’s a sating treat, but rumor behind the counter is when a staffer discloses it’s vegan, some omnivoric patrons change their order, despite the restaurant’s reputation for creating top-notch nosh. Did those patrons just remember they have a peanut allergy? Probably not. Do they have no faith that a baked good can be good without phlegm-inducing dairy? One could deduce that conclusion. But I bet some of those same patrons don’t mind eating Oreo cookies, though. Yep, those are dairy- and eggless, too.
