S.R. Jones’ “Flammable,” found object, photography, oil and graphite.

Prepare to be consumed by S. R. Jones’ new mixed-media work, 60% Water, coupled with new paintings by Tom Leaver at JayJay, 5520 Elvas Avenue. Leaver’s large oil-on-canvas landscapes have a certain brooding mystery, controlling your eyes’ path with a measured use of lights and darks. The brilliance in “An Isolated Place” seems to illuminate the piece from within, like a light trying to pierce through fog. But it’s Jones’ work that sucks you in. “You Are Golden Child,” an oil, graphite, color-print and found-image piece, picks you up—quick—and time-travels you to the days of Byzantium, with architecture similar to Constantinople’s Hagia Sophia. Floral motifs and a modern-day image of a woman whose languor evokes Ingres’ odalisques make for a fun ride. The exhibit continues through December 22. For more information, call (916) 453-2999.
