“Taste the apple butter. You know you want to. Come here. A little closer. … Come on!”

Ah … spring. The trees are beginning to bud. Flowers are blossoming. It’s finally warm enough to open the windows, and people everywhere have started their spring cleaning. Floors are being scrubbed. Closets are being emptied and sorted. Outmoded possessions are being given away, recycled or thrown out, leaving the home empty and fresh—so we can all go get more stuff!

This weekend’s Spring Harvest Gift and Food Festival is loaded with opportunities to outfit your home and pantry. Craft displays include everything from functional iron sculptures to handmade wooden kaleidoscopes. Live cooking demonstrations will teach you to decorate cakes, dry-rub barbecue meats (which I’m not sure I condone) and make the perfect summertime guacamole. Magicians, jazz bands, jugglers and minstrels will entertain the masses. Visit the festival on Friday from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Admission is $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for children. The event is located at the Cal Expo Pavilion. Visit www.harvestfestival.com for more information.
