If you want to party on New Year’s Eve until the proverbial break of dawn, it’s not hard to find a venue. There will be fireworks at midnight in Old Sacramento, live music shows at downtown nightclubs, dinner dances in the ballrooms of major hotels and, of course, free champagne and party favors in every single bar.

“But I’ve got children,” you say. “I haven’t partied like it’s 1999 since it was 1999.” You can’t face another year of watching the ball drop on television, but your kids are way too young to enjoy life after midnight. For you, there is the family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration at Garbeau’s Dinner Theatre. The chefs at Garbeau’s have cooked up a four-course dinner for adults and another four-course menu for kids. Dinner seating begins at 5 p.m., and live entertainment kicks in shortly thereafter. The evening’s crowning event is a live performance of Garbeau’s Acorn & Oak Theatre’s A Winnie-the-Pooh Christmas Tail.

Then, at 9 p.m. (midnight on the East Coast), it’s time to ring in the new year. Champagne will flow for the adults. Sparkling cider will flow for the kids. There’ll be noisemakers and revelry, but you’ll be out the door by 9:30 p.m., and someone else will clean up the confetti! How’s that for a happy new year?

Tickets are $60 for adults and $36 for kids (which includes tax, tip, party favors, entertainment and the sparkling beverages mentioned above). The theater is located at 12401 Folsom Boulevard in Rancho Cordova. Call (916) 985-6361 for reservations.
