Imposter

Philip K. Dick’s 1953 short story would have probably made a better half-hour Twilight Zone episode than a feature length film. The year is 2079 and the Earth is engaged in constant warfare with invading Centaurian forces. Gary Sinise plays weapons engineer Spence, who is suspected by an Earth Security Agency detective (Men in Black’s farmer turned alien receptacle Vincent D’Onofrio) of being a suicide replicant bomber intent on blowing up the world’s president. In The Fugitive-like fashion, Spence escapes subjection to an extraction device that would rip the alleged bomb—and his life—from one of his heart chambers and tries to prove his innocence. The ensuing padded, often plodding chase is both poorly executed and overwrought. Directed by Gary Fleder (Don’t Say a Word).
