What do deity and common tea have in common? Both have inspired the creation of elaborate ritual to celebrate them. The latter obsession is explored in Modern Tea Party, an exhibition currently on display at the Solomon Dubnick Gallery. A number of artists were asked to develop a contemporary interpretation of tea and the fascination that people have for enjoying it; these include locals Gary Dinnen, Melody Evans, Phill Evans, Claire Hurni, Jeff Nebeker, Gabriel Paolieri, Maija Peeples and Gary Pruner, and also non-locals Jim Budde, Stephan J. Cox, Jessica Dunne, Maru Hoeber, Eva Kwong, Ah Leon, Kirk Mangus, Thomas Orr, Monique Passicot, Tom Rippon, Paul Stein, Billie Jean Theide and Rimas VisGirda. Solomon Dubnick is located at 2131 Northrop Ave. (just west of Howe Avenue); for information, call 920-4547. Through December 29.
