Local curator Robert-Jean Ray is responsible for choosing the works in the group show Human Voice II: The Art of Social Comment at the Sacramento Temporary Contemporary this month. One of his picks is “Kirby” by Abigail VanCannon, a Sacramento-area artist whose paintings lovingly depict 1950s nostalgia.

Also showing in the gallery is Jean-Marc Brugeilles, a Bay Area artist who constructs hyper-vivid surreal paintings that look like children's book illustrations on drugs with an undeniable influence from Marc Chagall.
