How Stuff Works

This is what the Web does best: answer questions. “How Stuff Works” is divided into nine “channels”—sub-sites—that cover most of the topics about which you could possibly need basic information. The science channel can explain the design and function of the Mars exploration rovers, and the auto channel answers the eternal question “How does crash testing work?” With channels for computers, health, home, money, people and entertainment, among others, the site functions as a one-stop mini-encyclopedia. The “cool stuff” section includes particularly interesting spots on the site itself as well as links to everything from online factory tours to experiments to do at home. It also includes a helpful tutorial to help first-time users learn to navigate—and learn how to ask the right questions.
