SummerWords: The American River College Creative Writing Colloquium
SummerWords: The American River College Creative Writing Colloquium returns to campus from Thursday, May 30, to Sunday, June 2, with a smorgasbord of offerings and the official launch of the college's literary press, Ad Lumen Press.
SummerWords 2013 will be held in the ARC student center, and featured panels include a discussion on translation with Iranian poet Ziaeddin Torabi.
Also scheduled are workshops with Traci Gourdine, Jason Sinclair Long, Emily Hughes and Jodi Angel (who'll read from her forthcoming book You Only Get Letters From Jail). Workshop topics will include discussions on place, memoir, screenplays and creating believable characters.
This year's headlining guest, When the Killing's Done author T.C. Boyle, will appear off-campus to read from his works on Friday, May 31, at the Crest Theatre (1013 K Street). The next morning, he'll appear at the college as part of a question-and-answer session with Christian Kiefer (pictured), an ARC English professor and author of the acclaimed 2012 novel The Infinite Tides. Anthony Swofford, ARC alumnus and Jarhead author, is also scheduled to appear.
It costs $95 for the three-day event, which includes the Boyle reading at the Crest. Individual tickets to see Boyle are also available for $25. American River College, 4700 College Oak Drive; www.arc.losrios.edu/Programs_of_Study/English/SummerWords_ARC_Writing_Colloquium.htm.
