Holiday demolition derby
Buck Busfield’s new “holiday farce” draws on two distinct traditions. As a holiday play, it features Santa, a Christmas tree and the trimmings. But as a farce, it’s got slamming doors, half-nekkid folks, a “hide-the-bottle” routine involving a drunk and a demolition-derby reading of “’Twas the Night Before Christmas” (the show’s funniest moment). Overall, it’s an odd combination—kind of like peppermint candy canes served with sardines. The early scenes feel labored and “arranged,” but energetic acting helps, and laughter accrues as the wacky story gathers momentum.
