High Fidelity
Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is a pop music devotee who runs a record shop in a rundown Chicago neighborhood, and is also a self-proclaimed five-time loser in love. In the course of the film’s action, Cusack’s charmingly confused slacker obsesses over lost love, and particularly his most recent live-in girlfriend (Iben Hjejle), in much the same way he obsesses about his fanatically detailed preferences in pop music. The film thrives on an abundance of sharply observed secondary characters, none as impressive as Jack Black and Todd Louiso, a contrasting pair of pop culture nuts whose obsessiveness both matches and offsets Rob’s.
