Held Up
Chicago wise-ass (Jamie Foxx) and his fiancée (Nia Long) stop at a rural Sip & Zip convenience store while touring the Grand Canyon area in his vintage Studebaker Hawk. She discovers he spent their house nest egg on the car and hitches a ride to Las Vegas. He becomes a hostage of Mexican bandits in a poorly executed robbery. You can pay to see this lame comedy about a black man stranded in redneck country (Foxx’s character is mistaken for Mike Tyson and Puff Daddy by the locals) and feel robbed, too. Directed by Steve Rash and co-starring Northern Exposure’s Barry Corbin and John Collum as respective sheriff and store owner.
