Heartbreakers

Rated 2.0 The only reason this routine comedy merits a better than poor rating is funny work by Ray Liotta and Gene Hackman. Sigourney Weaver is not funny as a con artist teaming up with her loyal daughter (a laughably bad Jennifer Love Hewitt) to scam rich men. Liotta and Hackman are winners as two of their victims, and you wish the movie were just about them. Hewitt, trying to break from her good-girl image, is lost in the bad-girl role. Weaver, who sports an annoying Russian accent for much of the film, should start rallying for Alien 5. Jason Lee makes the most of an embarrassing role that will hopefully be forgotten within a few weeks. Low point: Weaver’s torturous rendition of “Back in the USSR.”
