Hanging Up
In this soulless, bathetic mess, written and produced by the wretched Ephrons (sisters Nora and Delia), Eve (Meg Ryan) serves as final-days nursemaid to cantankerous dad (Walter Matthau) while sisters Georgia (Diane Keaton) and Maddy (Lisa Kudrow) go selfishly about their comfortable whitebread lives. The film offers one half-decent dramatic scene and two laughs; the rest is Paul McCartney songs, a mammoth drooling pooch, gratuitous upchuckings of Richard Nixon, and the hallucination that Keaton is only five years older than Kudrow.
