Gwen Stefani
The Sweet Escape
Stefani returns with the follow up to her 2004 mega-hit, Love.Angel.Music.Baby. This one feels about the same, but it sure is a whole lotta fun. And Gwen’s new look is like her version of Michelle Pfeiffer’s Scarface coke-whore. Fun! The first single, “Wind It Up,” fits parts of the Sound of Music classic “Lonely Goatherd” in between a hip-hop dance beat similar to that of “Hollaback Girl.” Other standouts include “Early Winter,” a beautiful, dreamy ballad with haunting vocals, and “Yummy” (featuring Pharrell), a lively sing-song rap with a tom-tom-driven beat. Even though this album covers a lot of familiar Stefani ground, you’ll want to play it again and again—maybe even yodeling all the way. Make reservations now for your sweet escape.
