Greasy, meaty bites
Lumpia, Gina's Filipino Kape
Espresso Metro on 12th Street is no more, but there's still coffee at the old school spot. That's not why I stopped by on recent weekday, though; I poked in for the eyebrow-raising combination of espresso and Filipino eats. Inside the newly opened Gina's Filipino Kape, almost nothing's changed inside—except for the pancit (underwhelming stir fry noodles) on the menu along with lattes. Bad news is the eats don't live up to the irreverent charm of a Filipino coffeehouse. At least on first visit. But lumpia is lumpia: greasy, crunchy, meaty, nice onion bite, tasty. Three pieces for $2.50, seven for $5.50. Can't mess that up. 1011 12th Street, www.ginasfilipinokape.com.
