Gray magic

Many people could stand to be more like Mike. Mike Tyson, that is. That's because the controversial boxer sees the beauty in pigeons, and so does Sacramento-area artist Sea Miller. Her series of mixed-media work at Atelier20 this month is called Mystic Pigeons and features vignettes of urban landscapes occupied by the gray winged residents—who happen to have glowing halos. But instead of grime and neglect, the pigeons' monochromatic habitat is sprinkled with bits of mystery and magic, like curiously placed keyholes and etched compasses. The scenes feel like illustrations from a storybook that would put a twinkle of wonder in the reader's eyes.
