Granadas
He taught me the word for pomegranate:
Granada,
Or maybe I taught him how to say it in English.
Pomegranate,
My favorite fruit whose seeds stain like
Love,
Bloomed in his backyard,
He said.
But it was summer and the trees were still bare,
Wait and see.
But I couldn’t,
I knew
By the time summer turned to fall,
When the granadas arrived,
I would be
Gone.
