Got Milk?
Harvey Milk Day, May 22, was signed into law with Senate Bill 572 in 2009. Its purpose is to educate people about the life of gay-rights activist Harvey Milk, the first openly gay San Francisco city supervisor. Milk was assassinated in 1978, his death igniting and inspiring his friends and supporters. His work as a civil-rights advocate will be celebrated this weekend by the Sacramento community in the following events:
Harvey Milk Day at the Crocker Art Museum: Equality Action Now will host a screening of the documentary The Times of Harvey Milk. There will also be a spoken-word performance by Jovi Radtke and a small awards ceremony. It happens Sunday, May 22, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Crocker Art Museum, 216 O Street. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at www.equalityactionnow.org.
Got Milk?: The “Got Milk?” charity campaign created by AdikensSpot.com will be holding several fundraising events for the Harvey Milk Foundation and the Sacramento Gay & Lesbian Center. All weekend, portions of the door cover and alcohol sales at Badlands, Faces Nightclub and The Depot will be donated to the campaign. There will also be T-shirts, tank tops and underwear with “Got Milk?” screen prints for sale. Badlands is located at 2003 K Street, The Depot is located at 2001 K Street and Faces is located at 2000 K Street.
Pool party and barbecue: Faces Nightclub will hold a barbecue and pool party with a silent auction, bingo and raffle benefiting the “Got Milk?” campaign. Doors open at 2 p.m., and from 2 to 8 p.m., there is no cover. A free barbecue starts at 5 p.m., with deejay dancing throughout the evening.
