Got a good jick on?
What are “Jicks”? Some buddies from Morada, a suburb of Stockton, erstwhile hometown of Stephen Malkmus, once got into it with a Machiavellian landlady in Oakland; because the license plate on her Mustang started with the letters “JIX,” a “jix” soon became any female of evil intent. At least one of these guys knew Malkmus around the time he was just starting Pavement, the band that propelled the verbose lad with the shaggy-dog melodies toward international recognition as Ray Davies for Generation Ikea. Malkmus burned rubber out of Pavement last year, and his current band is called the Jicks. Hmm. Malkmus and assorted Jicks will play the Colonial Theater, 3522 Stockton Blvd., this Saturday, Octobert 20, at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 advance; bring your own chicken dinner from Pollardville.
