Going national
Sacramento has always been littered with scribes reading poignant verse from well-worn notebooks in the name of self-expression, but now the Capital City steps it up with some healthy, poetic competition. The Battle of the Bay, a slam poetry contest with performers from the Bay Area and our own fair hamlet, happens Saturday at 9 p.m. The poets have three minutes to win the judges’ respect and a perfect score of 10. Get ready to witness maximum verbosity at maximum velocity. Admission is $5 and proceeds fund Team Sacramento’s trip to the National Poetry Slam in Minneapolis. (It’s the first time Sacramento will send a team to compete at the national level, so show some support. Think of them as the Kings of spoken word and bust out the pompons!)
