Vern Phillips is still buzzing.

It’s been just a couple days since the patient and Sacramento-based extractor won first place for “Best Non-Solvent Hash” at the second annual High Times Medical Cannabis Cup. He and his Florin Wellness Center collective family never thought they’d even place, let alone take the top spot.

“We entered at the last minute,” explained Phillips, whose winning Herojuana hash was a last-minute entry. The collective didn’t even enter any flowers to the now-annual event, but intend to next year.

“I’m still staring at [the cup] and pinching myself every now and then,” Phillips said, laughing.
