Go big with the Sacramento Choral Society
The big choir sings in the big hall as the Sacramento Choral Society and Orchestra performs European Masterworks, which includes pieces such as F.J. Haydn’s Harmoniemesse (his last major work, from 1802); Antonin Dvorák’s setting of Psalm 149 (from 1879), and a nostalgic, slightly melancholy piece by Ralph Vaughan Williams, An Oxford Elegy (this one from the late 1940s, just after World War II). Donald Kendrick conducts; the concert also marks the release of a new CD. $35-$55; 8 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Sacramento Community Center Theatre, 1301 L Street; (916) 808-5181; www.sacramentochoral.com.
