Girl on the Bridge

This woozy guilty pleasure about risk and luck is a flawed black-and-white gem with Fellini undertones. Adele (played by model/pop singer and Johnny Depp’s spouse Vanessa Paradis) is a lonely, attractive woman who can’t just say no to the many men who provide her comfort during vulnerable moments in her life, then bed and abandon her. She is prepared to leap into the Seine when a knife thrower (Daniel Auteuil) talks her into becoming his new assistant. Their relationship includes a carnival act that doubles as virtual sex and telepathic communication. Director Patrice Laconte (Ridicule, Monsieur Hire) turns most of the romantic silliness here into a lyrical, dreamy trance.
