Your lifelong dream of being the sky captain of a hot air balloon is at hand—the Galt Balloon Festival is back for a second year of bulbous, fig-shaped, lighter-than-air travel. Starting early in the morning and for two days only, you’ll have the opportunity to ride in the basket of tethered balloons—much in the way of the early settlers of the area. Historical inaccuracies notwithstanding, this is a great opportunity to float above the earth. It’s first-come, first-served for the rides, and they cost extra. There are vendors selling food, selling arts and crafts and more. Spend a little bit of your time on this Earth above it and in the company of the gentle giants of the sky. 8899 Orr Road, galtballoonfestival.com.
