Fri, Sept 2, Joe Louis Walker
The Palms Playhouse, 8:30 p.m., $20
Joe Louis Walker grew up in the Bay Area and emerged during the late-’80s blues revival, with a blend of R&B and Texas, Delta and Chicago blues. He dons different formats like outfits, showcasing his facility and knowledge of his forebears. He’s as much skilled singer as guitarist, possessed of strong pipes and slinky reserve. Indeed, much of his music moves to a smoldering R&B-inspired groove recalling the cool, smoky strut of Albert King. Coming up with artists like Robert Cray and Stevie Ray Vaughan, Walker’s music is also informed by rock bristle, as hinted by his latest, 2009’s Between a Rock and the Blues. 13 Main Street in Winters, http://joelouiswalker.com.
