End of Summer Fest in Cesar Chavez Plaza is no longer happening, but local Americana act the Nickel Slots still get a CD release show on Friday night, and as far as slots play is concerned, one out of two is pretty choice odds. OK, lame joke; here’s some serious chatter: The Nickel Slots’ new album, which was recorded locally at Pus Cavern, straddles that proverbial country-rock fence, equal parts guitar rock and twang alt-country, like you’d hear, you know, in my girlfriend’s dad’s truck while blazing over the speed limit through backcountry roads, takin’ a swig during those rich guitar solos. 1901 10th Street, www.thenickelslotsmusic.com.
