Fri., Sept. 06, Cold Eskimo
Sophia's Thai Kitchen, 9:30 p.m., $5
Cold Eskimo's chief appeal is its dreamy, electropop sound. But there's something else: For so new a band (formed in 2011), it's markedly reserved, offering only glimpses into the progress of its new album (for which this writer is impatiently waiting), playing shows rarely. Laying this low perhaps seems counterintuitive for a fledgling band, but it's all the more intriguing for it. Its 2012 debut, Glass Beach, is a patchwork of Feist-esque vocals tracing folk-song melodies, and guitar lines and percussion that bring to mind Local Natives. For those curious about what's next, this headlining gig at Sophia's may be the biggest reveal yet. 129 E Street, Suite E in Davis; www.facebook.com/coldeskimo.
