Fri., Sept. 06, Bastards of Young

Midtown BarFly, 8 p.m., $8

The Bastards of Young owe a lot to the Replacements. Even its name is a nod to the famous Minneapolis rockers. Additionally, its breed of punk rock also includes a bit of the New Jersey working-class sound (read: the Gaslight Anthem and Titus Andronicus) as well as some gruff Jawbreaker punk sounds. BOY's songs have driving beats, meaty riffs and passionate, guttural vocals. The group is poised to release a new LP, a follow up to 2010's brilliant California Redemption. It's already given fans a sneak peek of the song, “Boys Like Us,” which has the signature BOY sound, but with a more crisp production value. 1119 21st Street, www.facebook.com/youngbasterds.
