Fri, Oct 30, Keak Da Sneak
The Boardwalk, 7:30 p.m., $22-$25
Did Keak Da Sneak ruin rap music? Big, ominous synths over reverb-drenched snares and gruff, incoherent raps—it’s been 15 years since Keak coined the term “hyphy,” but, really, what do we have to show for it here on the West Coast, insofar as innovative beat-making and quality rappers. Just E-40? OK, so what do I know: I’m just a bum Midtown electronica and IDM lover who can’t dance and has a rough time with high-velocity BPMs. And so, Keak’s show with San Quinn, Guce, J. Stalin, Big Rich, D-Lo and Kafani on Friday still should be pretty cool. 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale; www.myspace.com/keakdasneak.
