Fri, Nov 27, Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys
Old Ironsides, 9 p.m., $12
These guys understand the power of perfect-fitting high heels. No, they don’t wear them. But vocalist Big Sandy does lament about “Haunted Heels” leading his baby astray: “But you don’t know how bad it feels / when you reach for those high heels / to know that you won’t be home ’til dawn.” The Anaheim rockabilly group sounds like the film Pleasantville—after everyone turned to color and started “parking.” Big Sandy’s Elvis-like voice serenades ’50s- and ’60s-inspired rock ’n’ roll, blues and honky-tonk tunes. You won’t know whether to swing, bop or two-step, but you’ll definitely want to dance. 1901 10th Street, www.myspace.com/bigsandyandhisflyriteboys.
