Jandek confuses. There’s a lot on the Internet about the underground folk singer, whose real name is Sterling Richard Smith and hails from Houston. But he rarely plays live and hadn’t really performed at all before 2004. Yet there’s a lot of music online, too; I’m talking 60-or-so releases since 1978—a Salinger, but prolific. There’s a MySpace page where you can sample his janky, odd folk styling that sounds like a no-fi Roy Orbison and spoken-word Lou Reed telling stories to an out-of-tune gee-tar. He’ll be playing a special all-ages set for KDVS in a very intimate venue. This won’t happen again. 203 E. 14th Street in Davis, http://tisue.net/jandek.
