Fri., March 08, Camellia International Dance Festival
Sacramento State University Union Ballroom, 7 p.m., $7
Lots of people know how to “Dougie,” dance “Gangnam Style” and do the “Harlem Shake.” But the Camellia International Dance Festival offers more than just viral YouTube video moves. Here, folk dances have a deeper cultural significance. Moreover, they celebrate the diversity of culture in Sacramento with Argentine, Chinese, Egyptian, German, Indian, Israeli, Serbian and Ukrainian folk dances. The festival also offers a chance to learn a few new moves. It happens Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with various prices for different events. Friday's opening party—featuring contra and English country dance—costs just $7. 6000 J Street, www.folkdancesac.org.
