Fri, July 8, Mean Doe Green
Harlow’s, 10 p.m., call for cover
Mean Doe Green, a.k.a. Doey Rock, has fortified a significant hip-hop career while staying rooted locally. He’s worked with E-40, released legitimate mixtapes, had songs produced by Scott Storch (50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre) and dropped lines with Raekwon. His most recent mixtape, Black Suits & Shovels, is available at www.djbooth.net and profiles the slick spit Green brings to the mic. When he takes the stage, expect a dose of recent tracks as well as hits like “To the Moon” and “Last Call,” which highlight MDG’s bass-heavy tracks and that nuanced Sacto flow that puts other end-rhyme imitators to shame. 2708 J Street, (916) 441-4693; www.myspace.com/doeyrock.
