Fri., Feb. 08, Thomas Rhett
Stoney's Rockin' Rodeo, 7 p.m., $15-$60
At age 8, Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., son of country singer Rhett Akins, came onstage at one of his father's shows and rapped Will Smith's “Gettin' Jiggy Wit It.” Apparently, he was always the man he'd grow up to be. Now 22, Rhett is a cocksure slinger of country-meets-turn-of-the-century-hip-hop music; his bio likens his phrasing to that of Common and Coolio, and he references DMX in a song called “All-American Middle-Class White Boy.” His lyrics are not so much urban poet as beer-pong champ—“Hey, baby / What you got in there? / Can't be no Jäger / Can't be no beer”—and the overall experience is as irreverent and amusing as you might expect. 1320 Del Paso Boulevard, www.thomasrhett.com.
