Fri, Aug 7, Xyphl
Beatnik Studios, 7 p.m., $2
The Garage Sale Collaborative’s Experimental Summer Art Party is like the musical equivalent of ALF, everybody’s favorite ’80s extraterrestrial, getting some weird strain of space cancer. Then, cue Dr. Björk throwing a benefit show, curing it and saving the day. Instead of our furry alien pal battling rocket-ship-sized tumors, though, the proceeds of this audiovisual extravaganza will support Beatnik Studio. Xyphl, minimalist musician and one half of the collaborative, will provide the ambient synth tones, which I’m convinced outer space is totally full of. There will probably be just as many pairs of leggings sightings as when ALF premiered in 1986, too. 2421 17th Street, www.myspace.com/xyphl.
