Fri, April 15, Bright Faces
Old Ironsides, 9 p.m., $7
It’s been less than a year since Sacramento’s Bright Faces played their first show. Since, the quartet’s polished its rollicking country-pop sound. The band, which features longtime Sac musicians Ted Angel, Tim Pratt, Andy Vaughn and Kevin Coughlin, just released its debut album American Bull, and the seven-song disc marries the classic Bakersfield sound with Kinks-style pop. Songs such as “All or Nothing” and the rowdy title track are equal parts boozin’ heartache and toe-tappin’, while “2 A.M.” and “Taking Me Back” are more earnest—free of cynicism and in turn, imbued with a certain, graceful sadness. 1901 10th Street, http://myspace.com/brightfaces.
