Freight Train Riders of America
Electricity be damned. The Freight Train Riders of America band is in full-tilt acoustic-bluegrass boogie mode on its debut full-length, a collection of 23 tracks collected as a double CD set. The first CD presents the band live in the studio on a single afternoon in February and features a cross-section of FTRA favorites. The real standout, though, is the second CD. Here, the band records in front of an enthusiastic audience, and that audience makes all the difference, energizing the performances and making the whole thing sound like a warm-up show for a 1948 Bill Monroe concert. The music sounds as authentic as one can get: a testament to how fully the members of FTRA have immersed themselves in the music. If you can appreciate the vibe of a younger, more innocent America, you owe yourself this CD. Buy it from www.ftraband.com or from FTRA’s live shows. Yee-haw!
