Frank Miller’s Sin City
Miramax Home Entertainment
There’s danger at every turn in this collection of interweaving stories all centered in the crime-infested hellhole that is Basin City. Rooted in the classic film noir of the ’40s and ’50s, director Robert Rodriguez’s faithful adaptation of Frank Miller’s brilliant graphic novels is a blistering dance of booze, bullets, blood and dames. From the stylish cinematography to the spot-on casting, including an inspired Mickey Rourke as the nightmare that is Marv, Sin City is an extremely violent and profane film that—surprise—is also extremely fun. The DVD features a spotless widescreen transfer and aggressive Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS Surround tracks. With a multi-disc special edition already in the pipeline (you’ve been warned), extras are rather soft on this single-disc edition and include an eight-minute promo featurette and a few trailers.
