As it happens, this column is appearing on my birthday, and I’m not quite sure how to celebrate. Most people would go out for a nice dinner, but if I wait until next week, I’ll have an extra reason to have a night out on the town. From October 10 through October 15, a number of excellent restaurants are offering special three-course menus for just $24.95 as part of Dine Downtown. The weeklong event, sponsored by the Downtown Sacramento Partnership and Fork It magazine, is modeled on similar citywide dining-out promotions that have run in New York and other cities. Among the places you can hit on the cheap are such new hotspots as Kru, Sofia and Spataro, as well as longtime favorites such as Paragary’s Bar and Oven, 33rd Street Bistro, Mikuni and many more.
