Food Stuff
When I was pregnant recently, I was frequently asked whether I was craving any foods in peculiar. The answer was no—but I did have a powerful, constant dairy jones. One hot Sunday night, just after 10 p.m., I had a crisis of sorts when I realized that I had to have an ice-cream cone, preferably rocky road, right that minute. That’s when I remembered Rite Aid and its seemingly always-open, unbelievably cheap ice-cream counter. My best friend and I used to go to a Thrifty Drug for ice cream practically every day after school in junior high, and this is the same stuff; how could I have forgotten? They still use the same cylindrical scoop. The ice cream, while more expensive than in 1984, is still a great deal, and they have yummy, chocolaty rocky road. A buck-and-a-half and one double dip on a sugar cone later, I couldn’t have been happier. 1125 Alhambra Boulevard, (916) 452-1334.
