Food Stuff
The double entendre is getting a workout in Lavender Heights (the Midtown neighborhood that is a social hub for Sacramento’s gay community). Faces has a video bar and grill in the works called Headhunters, which will join the ranks of nearby burger joint . Hot Rod’s menu includes all the stuff that scares the bejesus out of the American Heart Association (burgers, chili burgers, hot dogs, onion rings, fries, chili-cheese fries and shakes), plus several items that could be classified as heart-healthy (Gardenburgers, Boca burgers, turkey burgers and a salad with charbroiled chicken breast). The place is open until 2 a.m. during the week and until 4 a.m. on weekends, and we can vouch that the burgers are tasty. The regular burger, with special sauce, iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion and pickle, seemed to be modeled on that of another double-entendre diner—In-N-Out. 2007 K Street, (916) 443-7637, www.hotrodsburgers.net.
