Food Stuff
Valentine’s Day sends many otherwise-rational people clamoring for reservations at fancy restaurants. The impulse is understandable, though the reality is that you’re going to be jammed, cheek to jowl, in a crowded dining room; served by frazzled waiters; and dinged by pricey “special” menus. And, if you didn’t make your reservation two weeks ago, you’re probably screwed. But don’t fret. If the best way to someone’s heart is through the stomach, you may be better off just making the meal yourself. This strategy need not be a huge production, although you probably should do more than nuke a frozen dinner. Preparing even a simple meal, with a few thoughtful touches, such as wine and candles, is more memorable than participating in a restaurant cattle call. Even more impressive is to surprise your sweetheart with a romantic dinner on a regular basis, on nights on which it is not expected.
