Zwetschgenfleck, anyone? For pastries as delicious as they are tongue-twisting, head over to Konditorei Austrian Pastry Cafe. In Germany and Austria, a konditorei is a bakery café that features impeccable goodies crafted by some of the most learned bakers in Europe. Albert Kutternig, an Austrian-born-and-trained konditormeister, has been serving up the same tradition locally since the early 1990s. Kutternig’s repertoire includes a number of traditional Austrian desserts, including zwetschgenfleck (plum cake), krapfen (deep-fried dough filled with apricot marmalade or custard) and palatschinken (light crepes filled with seasonal fruit). Konditorei’s selection of specialty cakes, fruit danishes, traditional Austrian desserts and filled croissants display a commitment to quality ingredients, just-out-of-the-oven freshness and serious baking skill. Drop in for breakfast, lunch or a snack, and if you cannot pronounce what you want, feel free to point. 2710 E. 5th St., Davis, (530) 758-1331, closed Monday.
