Follow the yellow brick road
Gina Livingston is really good at marketing herself. This is not a bad thing; the singer-songwriter, who will be playing this weekend’s Rainbow Festival at Faces, was on the phone the other day, confidently reminding us that she’s back in town and is fixing to take the local music scene by storm. Livingston has a new three-song CD out, Beneath the Raging Water; it’s her first since 1997’s full-length Signature to the World. She released both discs on her own SoulPop label, which adequately describes her sound—aesthetically, she’s coming from a time and place when names like Phil Collins and Stevie Wonder were instant adds at radio. If you’re playing hooky from church, you can catch her Sunday, September 2 at 11:30 at Faces, 2000 K Street; she’ll also play Luna’s Café at 1414 16th Street on Friday, September 14 at 9 p.m.
