Michael Leahy, host of the popular Friday night Cool as Folk radio program, is again booking shows—offering two nights of soft, folk country at the Delta of Venus (122 B Street, Davis; www.deltaofvenus.org) this weekend. “It’s a special thing, a return to the roots, if you will,” Leahy said of the venue he booked consistently for over two years. The special weekend features Travis Vick (Manteca, Calif.), Musee Mecanique (Portland, Ore.) and Beatbeat Whisper (Oakland, Calif.) on Friday night; then Telegraph Canyon (Fort Worth, Texas), Snowblink (San Francisco) and Birds and Batteries (San Francisco) on Saturday. “It will be a sonically interesting live-music experience with varied instrumentation, solid songs and good people,” Leahy said. “It always comes back to the human relationship beyond the music relationship. You want to work harder for people you genuinely like.”

Fans of Cool as Folk Presents will again be treated to regularly booked shows at Sophia’s Thai Kitchen as of Friday, April 18, with a former Delta of Venus legend, Davis’ own Mad Cow String Band.
