Fit to print
Printmaking, because it’s fixed more on deliberate process than on the idea of getting hopped up on Ornette Coleman sides and gin and squirting yellow paint from a squeeze mustard bottle at the ceiling, tends to attract a more methodical sort of artist. On display now at Exploding Head Gallery at 924 12th St. are works by four artists, each of whom comes at the process from a different angle: Barbara Leventhal-Stern with large vibrant woodcuts that evoke a pagan’s delight with nature; Nicole Rawlins with intense intaglio prints that look like something from an ancient family album; Linda Katzdorn with etched copper plates along with the prints made from them; and illustrator Richard Downs, whose prints were commissioned to accompany various magazine articles. The gallery is open 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday; for information call 442-8424.
