Many ecosystems depend on the survival of salmon.

Many ecosystems depend on the survival of salmon.

It’s no secret that intensive fishing, oceanic conditions, water pollution and dams have caused salmon and steelhead populations to dwindle. These and other factors that have changed the American River environment in the past 150 years will be front and center when Tim Horner presents “Salmon at the Heart of Nature.” Horner will discuss the survival of salmon, the species’ importance to the health of ecosystems and possible restoration projects. Friday, September 25, 7 p.m.; $10 for general admission, $8 for Placer Nature Center members and $5 for students; Unity of Auburn’s theater, 1212 High Street in Auburn.
